Daily Drawing - 21st Birthday Camera Card
Here's an old drawing I just dug up.
Happy Birthday to lil Phan who is 23 (and starting her first job) today.
What better way to send a happy birthday than a handmade card?

Finally, Rovio Angry Birds inspired cake pops from kathyphantastic and Objects of Confection.
These aren't our first iPhone inspired creations, but they are our first iPhone/iPad game-based cake pops.
This blue angry bird looks tired, sad, AND just a little angry.
Unfortunately, some of these cracked. I think if the redhead wanted to look like one of the characters, he could become the pig. I'd need to start calling him the red mustache.
How would Words With Friends look as cake pops? I'm thinking inferior ("inferior" is ≥ 11 points).
What's your favorite phone game? Snake? Brick Breaker? Do you want to see it as a cake pop?
Obviously, I take after the blue Angry Bird.
Objects of Confection and I packed this box full of cake pops for an excited Hello Kitty lover in Round Rock.
What flavor is inside those cute little Hello Kitty cake pop heads, might you ask? Objects of Confection's chocolate cake balls. Mmmm...cute covered chocolate.
Oh, you haven't gotten enough of the Hello Kitty cake pops? There's more:

Lil Phan and I had a pre-Austin Kite Festival macaron adventure - this time from La Patisserie.
The bakery was really cute and included a room with a little nursery. A lovely paper birdie banner hung from the ceiling.
But back to the baked goods:
We ordered 12 (!) macarons from La Patisserie's macaron boutique and a pain au chocolat each. I had fun styling and stacking the macarons in different colorways, but Lil Phan only shared these two shots.
Oh yeah, my fave macaron? Caramel.
Last month Objects of Confection and kathyphantastic teamed up to teach a Christmas cake ball and cake pop workshop. We're happy to announce that it was a success (despite some bizarro background music) and there's a Valentine's class scheduled for February.

Sweet-toothed students including blog followers, Facebook fans, Twitter followers, a few friends, and some kids got their hands dirty (or rather, sugary) learning the ins and outs of cake ball how-to and cake pop decoration.
My good friend Aimee Wenske and my sister Tina Phan took pictures and some video.

Fellow blogger and crafty friend Monica made some of the cutest cake balls. Her penguins are darling. Check Monica's food and craft blog Sugar Stitches.
Thanks Monica for the Cake Pop Decorating blog post.
See the little girl sneaking a bite of cake pop? I love it. Yum!

This is a simple penguin of my own. I need to get used to wearing these blue gloves. Luckily, I found out I only need to wear them when touching students' cake pops and not my own. Manual dexterity increased a hundredfold!
I am the Michael Jackson of cake pops (one glove).
Thanks everyone for coming to our class! I can't wait to share more pictures.
PS Thanks to the red head for getting me the layer cake apron I'd blogged about for my first class. :)

I tried an ice cream sandwich from the Austin Coolhaus.
Blog followers know that I can't resist a dessert truck. This fairly new ice cream truck hails from Los Angeles. The Austin incarnation of Coolhaus is tucked away in East Austin, in the East Austin Trailer (E.A.T.) Park and Eatery across the park from The WonderCraft. Y'all know I love Wonder Craft. Check out my WonderCraft posts.
The treat: Mint ice cream with chocolate cookies.
The verdict: Yummy, but expensive at $4. Also, too much ice cream sandwich for one kathyphantastic.
This made me wish they offered half portions for $2.
Next time, I'll be getting the lemon ice cream with ginger cookies. This is what Tina Phan got. It's not that mine wasn't good, it was. It's that hers was amazing. Maybe we'll be able to share?
Here's a video Tina Phan made of me setting up geeky Twitter bird cake pops.
I donated these cake pops to a KUT and NPR tweetup party my friend Dee planned during SXSWi earlier this year.
It's set to the tune of the Ramones' cover of the Trashmen's Surfin' Bird. Does anyone else think of Family Guy when they hear that song?
Sorry I haven't been posting regularly. I've been busy with a few different projects.
This photo of Hey Cupcake's The Standard was taken by lil Phan during on the of those projects: a photoshoot we did last week with a cute new family.
Stay tuned for a post about that photoshoot and a big announcement next week.
Thanks so much for reading.
My friend Lauren Blazic is a fashion designer who sells appliances by day. You might remember her blending into houndstooth or crafting moustaches with me.
Lauren needed to get her portfolio together at the last minute for an interesting opportunity. I knew of two photographers who would be easily convinced to shoot pictures in trade for cute hair accessories.
We went to Hyde Park (Quack's Bakery, a laundromat, and a park) that Sunday afternoon. Here are some of my favorite pictures from Aimee Wenske and lil Phan.
Sara Janz from Beauty Emporium & Salon did the hair and make up (bad site, good hair). I think her most amazing feat of the day was getting (my) Asian hair to curl. Trick of the trade: use a flat iron (they curl, too).
The appliances get me every time.

I kept this headband.

Lauren made sure her everything was perfect for her portfolio.
To top it all off, I got to eat this vanilla cupcake with coconut cream cheese frosting at Quack's. You might remember Quack's from my Mmmpanada Misadventure post. The vanilla coconut cream cheese cupcake was just as good as the lemon meringue.
Yum.
